The long ordeal and controversy over whether or not there are wetlands or a stream on the Emerson’s Camano Island property may finally be over. Last week Kelly Emerson submitted the final wetlands report that was required by the County under the recent settlement agreement. This report was to finally resolve the issue of whether there are or there or not wetlands or a stream on their property.
This comes almost 3 years to the day of when Ken Emerson started a project to build a screen room on the existing footprint of a deck and applied for the permit. The screen room was started on August 27, 2010, a Friday, and a day the county permit office was closed due to budget cuts, a permit was filed with the county on the following Monday August 31 2010. It is now 3 years later almost to the day and finally this issue may be resolved and soon the Emerson’s will have the building permit they applied for 3 years ago in their hands.
This long ordeal for the Emerson’s may finally be over and I am sure everyone involved will be relieved. 10′s of thousand of dollars were spent on wetland reports. Great amounts of stress was placed on Ken and Kelly’s relationship. Large amounts of taxpayer funds were lost. Much political hay making and destruction was caused by this action and it all comes down to one fact. The Emerson’s were correct. There are no wetlands or a stream on the Emerson’s property. There never were.
The most recent report says the same thing that the first and subsequent reports and reviews stated. This will make 4 wetlands specialists, 3 of them which were also Hydro-Geologists or Engineering Geologists, weighing in on the fact that there are no wetlands or streams on the Emerson’s Camano property.
