Mayor Scott Dudley’s Oak Harbor State Of the City Address 9-19-2012

Author:Cliff

Let me start off by saying that I have lived in the Oak Harbor area for most of my life and I have always wondered what where and how this city operates. I see the Oak Harbor municipal vehicles driving back and forth through the city and I never could understand what all of these people were doing for our city. This great mystery has now been addressed.

Mayor Scott Dudley’s State Of The City address certainly shed some light on all of this. It was the first time that I have ever seen one of our Mayors or anyone else in Oak Harbor public service give such a comprehensive explanation about where our tax dollars go, how the tax dollars are used and how the city operates to benefit the citizens of Oak Harbor.

It is certainly nice to see the Mayor present the state of our city and a few visions for the future. This is what all of our citizens need to have confidence in the leaders we have chosen to run our city.

I really have to commend Mayor Dudley for making this first historic State of the City Address, it was a real benefit to the citizens of our City and I certainly hope that this will become an annual event in the future and continues for all of our future Mayors.

Please take the time to view this State of the City Address here on the Oak Harbor city website. The address is presented in 3 parts, 1- State of the City Introduction 2- State of the City Address 3- Questions, be sure to view all parts of the series.  I would encourage all of those people that did not attend the meeting and do view this presentation to direct any comments directly to the Mayor himself at mayor@oakharbor.org . Mayor Dudley always responds to citizens e mails.

Chris Skinner is the leader of Oak Harbor’s “get Dudley” crowd; most all of whom are former mayor Jim Slowik supporters. The Whidbey News-Times has given him lots of room (1,070 words!) for a printed “hit piece” upon Mayor Dudley in response to this presentation.

My Question: Does the US President answer questions from the US Congress about appointments to his cabinet during a State of the Union address?

Answer to My Question: No, and City Council members asking such questions of the mayor following this presentation are off-base, too.

Next time, the mayor should give his state of the city the presentation during a workshop as he had been led to believe would be the case and not during a City Council meeting into which the event had been maneuvered, so that proper decorum can ensue and so that City Council members and local attorneys with a “get Dudley” agenda can simply talk among themselves afterwards – same as the US Congress is expected to do when listening to the US President.
