Why we have a Second Amendment- Athens Tennessee August 2nd 1946- A short 66 years ago

Author:Cliff

Here are some links to information and a video about an event that happened in Athens Tennessee 66 years ago last August 2nd.

This exemplifies why we have a 2nd Amendment to our Constitution that reserved the right of the people to bear arms in their defense. Remember the words “shall not be infringed” when you view the video. It is a compelling example of why we have a Second Amendment to our Bill of Rights that needs to be preserved at ALL COSTS..

Of course many people will just poo poo this as ancient history but this is something that happened during quite recent history.

View the video which is best to watch in full screen, several links are below with newspaper accounts of the time and more general information.

The 2nd Amendment says: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

    Add to that right, this:

    From: http://uscode.house.gov/download/pls/10C13.txt

    TITLE 10 – ARMED FORCES
Subtitle A – General Military Law
PART I – ORGANIZATION AND GENERAL MILITARY POWERS
    CHAPTER 13 – THE MILITIA

    -HEAD-
Sec. 311. Militia: composition and classes

    -STATUTE-
    (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied
males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section
313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a
declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States
and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the
    National Guard.
    (b) The classes of the militia are –
    (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard
    and the Naval Militia; and
    (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of
the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the
    Naval Militia.

    Who is exempted?

    “TITLE 10 – ARMED FORCES
Subtitle A – General Military Law
PART I – ORGANIZATION AND GENERAL MILITARY POWERS
    CHAPTER 13 – THE MILITIA

    -HEAD-
    Sec. 312. Militia duty: exemptions

    -STATUTE-
    (a) The following persons are exempt from militia duty:
    (1) The Vice President.
    (2) The judicial and executive officers of the United States,
the several States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, and
    the Virgin Islands.
    (3) Members of the armed forces, except members who are not on
    active duty.
    (4) Customhouse clerks.
    (5) Persons employed by the United States in the transmission
    of mail.
    (6) Workmen employed in armories, arsenals, and naval shipyards
    of the United States.
    (7) Pilots on navigable waters.
    (8) Mariners in the sea service of a citizen of, or a merchant
    in, the United States.

    (b) A person who claims exemption because of religious belief is
exempt from militia duty in a combatant capacity, if the
conscientious holding of that belief is established under such
regulations as the President may prescribe. However, such a person
is not exempt from militia duty that the President determines to be
    noncombatant.”

So, unless you are exempted, in my world view, you have an actual responsibility as a member of our militia to know how to properly and responsibly own, store and shoot firearms.

Furthermore, we as a society should be having our K-12 public schools TEACH our children about these rights and responsibilities not only in the cognitive domain, but also in the affective and psycho-motor domains. That is, our K-12 schools should be: teaching our students about these laws, rights and responsibilities; teaching them to appreciate firearms for the role they play in ensuring our continued freedom; teaching them to handle and shoot firearms as part of the core curriculum in learning to be responsible citizens and as members of the militia.

As it stands now, the only “education” students receive on the topic is toward the attitude that “zero tolerance” of firearms is appropriate, except for official law enforcement.

That is 100% backwards, but it demonstrates how utterly seeped in liberal ideology our K-12 schools have become under the false guise of protecting our children.

The only thing kids in the K-12 system are actually being “protected” from in this arena is the truth about the 2nd Amendment and their actual rights and responsibilities as US citizens.

    I just wrote this article:

For the record, I am liberal, but I believe fiercely in the 2nd Amendment.
