Once Again Island County Commissioners Vote to Approve Another “Property Taking” Law

Author:Bill

The County Commissioners are planning to create a citizens committee to address citizen complaints against property owners who wish to shoot guns on their property, and  County Planning Director,  Bob Peterson will head it up…unbelievable!

This is another  effort  by  government taking second amendment rights from us.

We need “all hands on deck” to attend this meeting at the County Commissioner’s hearing room   2:00 p.m. Monday, February 25th

It’s madness that the Island County Commissioners would even consider such a thing!

(Commissioner Emerson Kelly isn’t FOR this law)

The (no shooting) ordinance was first brought out for discussion by former Commissioner Angie Homola.

It is now being revived and championed by the original author,  Planning and Community Development director, Bob Pedersen

The ordinance has taken on several forms over the course of the last few months, beginning with the most outlandish, arbitrary, and capricious language, to incorporating some needed exemptions, and now through the work of Commissioner Price-Johnson, creating a new citizens committee so that the county commissioner board can be free of decision making responsibility.

Here’s  a link  for a view of the ordinance that will be coming to work session on March 6th.

An “in-the-know” neighbor of mine – we both live in the vicinity of Bos / Swan Lake (Bos / Swan Lake is former Commissioner Homola’s personal-pet-project-Government money-SUCK; she overlooks it) told me that Angie desires to use this ordnance to BAN duck hunting from Bos / Swan Lake entirely.

Bob Pederson is not an elected official. The suggestion to empower him to make decisions on this controversial issue reeks of Jill Johnson and Helen Price-Johnson simply wanting to distance themselves from this entirely, but only AFTER they have enacted a very BAD BAD idea.

Thank you Bill for this information and I will attend this meeting in opposition to this new law. I hope everyone shows up to provide support against this stupid law.

Jeff, “. I hope everyone shows up to provide support against this stupid law.”
      ME TOO…
…I plan to make a video recording of the Monday’s meeting and post it on “YouTube” so the world can see our Commissioners in action on their private agenda items and special interest groups’ “wants” instead of working to solve real county management & fiscal problems
I don’t think county’s videos of Commissioner meetings get much citizen exposure, especially when it often takes until the following Friday for public viewing is possible
We are also considering making video recordings of their work sessions and some of 41 different advisory committee meetings to provide better public understanding of the performance of their elected officials
The audio recordings of work sessions don’t really show all that goes on at the work sessions, especially like the performance at last Wednesday’s meeting and a few snide remarks by the RINO after the recording ended…Maybe if our elected officials see our cameras they will think twice before doing their political infighting and/or acting like children throwing temper tantrums
They still don’t accept the fact that they can’t demand respect; they must earn it…DUH?

        Hi Bill.

I think you have some great ideas.

A few pro tips and note I don’t give tips on giving testimony… I think you know why! But I do advise you charge the battery and if you can afford it make sure you have a backup battery also preferably fully charged. Also you should try to be a half hour early to calibrate your gear and get the zooms & color right.

BTW it’s me politely asking the Island County Commissioners staff to be more timely after waiting until Tuesday afternoon for the video to be posted. One can use Replay Media Catcher ( http://applian.com/download-videos/ ) to download the video you want from Island County Government’s video host ( http://www.avcaptureall.com/Sessions.aspx , then search for “Island County” ) and then edit. I don’t know if you have a Mac or PC, but there are some great freeware basic video editing programs out there like Windows Live Movie Maker. Then you have to upload the final file to YouTube. Should be easy for a smart guy like yourself.

          Thanks Joe…appreciate your good advice
This is going to be interesting to see how the Commissioners react

BUT…”Should be easy for a smart guy like yourself”…
…at my age my brain resists new things and forgets old things.

To bad that “working people” who don’t get off till 4 or 5pm can’t attend these meeting……be nice if they were in the evenings

Concerned, You might get your wish soon
Commissioner Emerson has, since being elected 2+ yeras ago, been trying to get at least one meeting per month scheduled in the evening.
All of her efforts failed for a magnitude of bogus reasons cited by Price-Johnson and ex-Commissioner Homoalone
If Emerson refused to be paid as Commissioner and pay for all her county trips herself, the “Taxing Twins” would find fault with her plan and pass a law that prevents Emerson from doing it… or if she said it’s a beautiful they would assign Pederson’s staff to research data to prove it was not a beautiful day.
That’s the history of Emerson’s first 2 years in office
But now with ex-Commissioner Homoalone being terminated from County employment for the second time, it looks like two Commissioners will ignore HPJ’s NO Change in meeting schedules demand and one evening meeting WILL BE scheduled every month…maybe starting as soon and March

Would really like to evening meeting so working people can participate, since we live in the county but do not have the opportunity to voice our conerns…

O K Concerned; you got your wish “Would really like to evening meeting so working people can participate, since we live in the county but do not have the opportunity to voice our conerns…”
I hope you take advantage of the schedule change

There is board agreement to start the Commissioner’s fourth Monday meeting of the month at 6 p.m. The idea is to facilitate community input by providing more options for residents who may not be able to get to board’s daytime meetings, most of which begin in the morning.
Additional discussion is required to hammer out some of the details and that will happen at the board’s next Wednesday work session, March 6. Once complete, the board will then hold a public hearing and take officials action.
Board Clerk Elaine Marlow said the soonest the change would go into effect is this month, but it may not begin until April.

The change will be a victory for Commissioner Kelly Emerson, advocated for a nighttime meeting since July 2011.
Her early efforts didn’t move forward, but Emerson made another appeal this past January, which gained more traction with the support from new board member, Jill Johnson.

Emerson said, “I’m happy were going to finally establish one evening meeting a month…Hopefully, this will make it easier for people to come down and partake in local government,”

In 2011, Price Johnson said she was wary of the change as it would result in additional costs to the cash-strapped county. Some county department heads reinforced those concerns at a roundtable discussion with the board this week when they reported the change would result in overtime expenses for some employees.

Price Johnson said the cost is something the board needs to be mindful of and that she was hopeful that night time meetings could be implemented gradually so expenses could be monitored…not going to stand in the way of the change, however”

BFD, she knows the vote would be 2 for against her 1 NO for approval. Helen has finally realized she no longer has absolute control of all board decisions with Honoalone, her puppet, no longer around

All the things written about Emerson and her not getting a permit can not be flase. Read the facts and how she can serve the community she has filed a lawsuit against. She lives in Oak Harbor and is suppose to serve Camano Island District she lives in a different district, she either needs to move back to the district she was suppose to represent or resign. With all the issues she has how can she serve the public? I see her as a one termer.

Why do you continue to post your opinionated biased lies about Commissioner Emerson with no facts to support them ?
Last time you posted this dribble Cliff gave you several links that state the real truth, not the Dem’s lies, about Emersons property rights vilolations by Island County, aka Price-Johnson, Homola, John Dean, and Bob Pederson who followed their every order
Cliff included evidence with copies of bogus wetlant violation, rejection of 2 of County’s findings, etc
It might be uncomfortable for you to read these sources but the result might prevent your sperading your BS lies over and over
A conclusion is simply the place where you got tired of thinking

Emerson is not worthy of carrying the title z’commissioner”. She has cost island county money and will cost island county residents even more, and then she will do everything she can to fire anyone who was involved in any way with the mess when it was all caused be her and her husband.

Obviously you are ignorant of the facts. The statements you have made are not based on facts. You have heard the old adage “You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts”?

I again suggest you do a little research so you do not sound so ignorant. No one here appreciates those who blindly parrot liberal talking points. Below are a few articles that may help with your ignorance. Please read them so next time you make a comment at least you have a few of the facts and maybe then you will not parrott the liberal lines from the local Democrat party and their mouthpiece the Whidbey News Times.

RIGHT SIDE, “She has cost island county money and will cost island county residents even more, and then she will do everything she can to fire anyone who was involved in any way with the mess when it was all caused be her and her husband.”

Have you bothered to get the real facts about Emerson’s Issues with County Planning, John Dean, HPJ andd Homola ?
Their actions are the ones that have cost county $$$ and will cost many more if they don’t stop their “get Emerson” game
You should read the following post from Cliff and get facts; not the DEM lies that you stated i.e

RIGHTSIDE, “She has cost island county money and will cost island county residents even more, and then she will do everything she can to fire anyone who was involved in any way with the mess when it was all caused be her and her husband.”

Neither she nor her husband are going to back down, so the next steps — and ultimately resolution — is in the hands of planning officials, particularly its departmental chief, Bob Pederson, where it’s been for the past 2 years
Resolution of the Emerson Planning Department issue. and at least 6 other similar property owner rights violations will continue to be impossible with Pederson still in control and County will still be wasting tax dollars on this ego driven stupidity started by Commissioners John Dean, Angie Homola and Helen Price-Johnson who continues it today
Pederson has stated publicly that if he were fired he’d sue Emersons personally and County and his Commissioner bosses; he was just doing what his bosses told him to do

Remember in Emersons lawyers’ letter to the County Commissioners he told them to make a decision, “…one way or another” and just a few days ago Pederson said about the wetlands, “…concedes, however, that their determinations may prove correct.”

DUH, isn’t a little late for that stroke of genius BOB?

Since Pederson or the Commissioners have not done anything responding to Emerson’s lawyer’s request I think it’s time for plan B; FIRE Pederson.

Think about how good this would be for everyone in Island County and all the tax dollars it would save with his termination
